The talismanic items prepared for protection from evil, healing, luck and evil eye have been used for thousands of years and still continue to be used. Mankind believed that various idols and figurines, up to monotheistic religions, would protect them from evil. In later periods, various objects believed to have positive effects were used, on which the names and attributes of the divine power were engraved with various symbols and shapes.
A similar understanding can be seen in the “Charmed Shirts Collection” in Topkapı Palace, which shows the beliefs of the Ottoman Sultans, their way of perceiving prayer and fate. It was believed that these shirts protect the wearer against diseases and all kinds of evil and heal the sick.
A piece of the back of a talismanic shirt found in Topkapı Palace on the Vase is stylized. On the border on the body of the vase, “Muhammed” is placed in kufi writing style.
Selamly, the vase is made of handmade glass and all the relief patterns are handcrafted and decorated using 24 carat gold gilding.
Its production is limited to 2000 pieces.
