Tens of thousands of cuneiform tablets were found during excavations in Büyükkale and other areas between 1907 and 1912. Tablets have been damaged over 2000 years and needed conservation to last for many years. Therefore, the tablets were sent to Berlin between 1915 and 1917 to be returned. II. As a result of World War II, most of the tablets remained in Berlin museums, as a result of great efforts, approximately 7,500 tablets were brought to the country in 1987.
Thirty-thirty-five thousand tablets have been excavated so far, and it is the world’s most important collection in terms of number of tablets. Today, these tablets are preserved in Ankara Anatolian Civilizations Museum, Istanbul Archeology Museums and Çorum Museum.
