Apollo is considered to be the sun, divination, music and art god in Hellenist civilizations. According to legend, the god Apollo met the shepherd Brankhos in Didim (Didyma) and gave him the secrets of prophecy. Brankhos, on the other hand, established the Temple of Apollo in the place where the bay forest and water source was located. Didim is located 18 km from Milet (Miletos), which is near Yenihisar Village of Söke District of Aydın. to the south.
The Temple of Apollo, as it was called Didymaion BC. It was built in 560 and has become one of the most important divination centers of the ancient world. The temple was run by the family called Brankhidler who lived there for a long time.
The first excavations in the ancient city of Didim were started by the British in 1858. These excavations continued intermittently from 1905 to 1937. Excavations are still continuing today.
Didyma Column Bowl was designed inspired by the column that came out of Didim Ancient City and BC. The column base piece belonging to the 3rd century was taken from our country in various ways and is now exhibited in the Louvre Museum in France.
